The Brittle Riders Book One, by Bill McCormick, is the first book in a thrilling science fiction and fantasy trilogy. It takes readers on an intriguing journey through a unique and imaginative world. The story begins when a daring scientist, Edward Q. Rohta, created multiple species successfully to aid humans. The created species are used solely for slave labor. However, a chain of events that leads to an apocalypse begins when the created species, due to slave labor revolt, causing the death of every man, woman, and child on the planet.
The book takes us on a post-apocalyptic journey after the brutal end of humans with a new way of life entirely different from the world previously led by humans. But this new world comes with its own pain and suffering as a merciless ruler, which births the need for change.

I have taken an overly long time to get through book two because I've had to put it down so many times and either savor it, or got emotional and almost bitch cried, like I did when read the part about Ben's friend's reading to him, and him coming around. I had to stop and accomplish some other tasks, because that was a lot.
I called you a fucker when I stopped, and laughed at how much I enjoyed the story, along with how I walked away at that moment because I was afraid you'd kill him off after that, or if it all works out, just to savor the moment.

The fate of the world hangs in the balance, because some d-bag named (Xhaknar) was genetically engineered to be a psychic Hitler on steroids! What's a badger-person to do but rebel? Right?! By the middle (and admittedly, I'd skipped the "brands" glossary) I'd learned what everyone was and fell into the story. Then it got great! (It's) Tank Girl meets Lord of the Rings. The world-building was top notch! Take everything a health-nut fears about GMO food and throw it in your Nutra-bullet with the Elfstones of Shannara! Out of this world. That's a good thing.

As the first thing to go is my memory of proper names, I started rereading (the Omnibus) just to brush up but now I'm hooked - again. I want to refresh my memory with some of the very fun dialog and revisit the fun, surprising, character arcs where we see the reluctant hero take their first steps - one of my favourite themes. So, yeah, you could say I think you've created an amazing world as I reread it to glean more detail, without the mad page-turner frenzy to see what happens next! Sland, hah!

Bill has a great way with throwing his characters in at the deep end and right away you start to feel for them. An extremely well written story with an intense ending. I give this book and the author an extra star for the innovative concept and the very likeable voice of 'Ben'. All in all, this is one epic 'must' read for anyone who is a hardcore sci-fi fan and anyone who is looking for a new universe to explore. Good stuff.
