The Brittle Riders: Book One (Second Edition) won the Critters Readers Poll for Best Science Fiction Novel of 2022
Densely packed, SF-tinged high fantasy that mildly satirizes the genre. - Kirkus Reviews
The Story
A brilliant man hosted a party. It was such a good party it culminated in the death of every man, woman, and child on the planet. That story is boring and oft told. This is not that story. This is the story of what happened next.
The Brittle Riders, apocalypses are funny that way.
After being reviewed by professional critics at Bookscribs - now defunct - The Brittle Riders was awarded a 97.92 rating, out of 100, on the film adaptability scale. Thanks to this we are actively shopping it.
REVIEWSA very unique tone and world, reminiscent of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY meets a MAGNIFICENT SEVEN/DIRTY DOZEN - type set up, but with a look, flavor, and lexicon all its own. In a world where studios and streamers are looking for IP that's expansive, both narratively and in terms of ancillary possibilities (prequels, offshoots, video games, etc.), (The Brittle Riders) certainly seems to offer up a number of possibilities.

The Brittle Riders Book One, by Bill McCormick, is the first book in a thrilling science fiction and fantasy trilogy. It takes readers on an intriguing journey through a unique and imaginative world. The story begins when a daring scientist, Edward Q. Rohta, created multiple species successfully to aid humans. The created species are used solely for slave labor. However, a chain of events that leads to an apocalypse begins when the created species, due to slave labor revolt, causing the death of every man, woman, and child on the planet.
The book takes us on a post-apocalyptic journey after the brutal end of humans with a new way of life entirely different from the world previously led by humans. But this new world comes with its own pain and suffering as a merciless ruler, which births the need for change.

I have taken an overly long time to get through book two because I've had to put it down so many times and either savor it, or got emotional and almost bitch cried, like I did when read the part about Ben's friend's reading to him, and him coming around. I had to stop and accomplish some other tasks, because that was a lot.
I called you a fucker when I stopped, and laughed at how much I enjoyed the story, along with how I walked away at that moment because I was afraid you'd kill him off after that, or if it all works out, just to savor the moment.

The Brittle Riders is like being gutted in a knife fight and then having the assailant lick your wounds. Both terrifying and erotic. And it's all held together by booze.
Highly recommended.

Such a twisted, funny, crazy-fun read. Love the Brittle Riders!

The fate of the world hangs in the balance, because some d-bag named (Xhaknar) was genetically engineered to be a psychic Hitler on steroids! What's a badger-person to do but rebel? Right?! By the middle (and admittedly, I'd skipped the "brands" glossary) I'd learned what everyone was and fell into the story. Then it got great! (It's) Tank Girl meets Lord of the Rings. The world-building was top notch! Take everything a health-nut fears about GMO food and throw it in your Nutra-bullet with the Elfstones of Shannara! Out of this world. That's a good thing.

As the first thing to go is my memory of proper names, I started rereading (the Omnibus) just to brush up but now I'm hooked - again. I want to refresh my memory with some of the very fun dialog and revisit the fun, surprising, character arcs where we see the reluctant hero take their first steps - one of my favourite themes. So, yeah, you could say I think you've created an amazing world as I reread it to glean more detail, without the mad page-turner frenzy to see what happens next! Sland, hah!

It's like taking a drive through a broken brain, but with prettier colors.

Bill has a great way with throwing his characters in at the deep end and right away you start to feel for them. An extremely well written story with an intense ending. I can see why there are some more books in the series and I look forward to seeing where they go, thank you for the entertaining read.

If David Brin came off a three day tequila bender and dropped acid, he would have written The Brittle Riders.

The Brittle Riders by Bill McCormick was an unexpected pleasure to read. (It) is full of multidimensional characters, great battles, and the complexities of seeking new allies amongst sectarian brands to benefit the whole of Arreti, whilst rectifying wrongs of the past.

This is the story of what happens if Frankenstein's monsters ruled the earth.

It is masterfully written with attention to detail and it sympathetically manages to bridge the gap between faith and technology. I give this book and the author an extra star for the innovative concept and the very likeable voice of 'Ben'. All in all, this is one epic 'must' read for anyone who is a hardcore sci-fi fan and anyone who is looking for a new universe to explore. Good stuff.

McCormick packs more in twelve words than others do in twelve paragraphs.

The first book I ever read where taking a shit was a major plot point. Abosultely amazing!

It reminded me of the ending of RUR (Rossum's Universal Robots) by Karel Capek, as a continuation of it. While the Gen-O-Pod War resulting in different brands made me think about The Uplift Series by David Brin.

Everything I know is wrong, everything I believe is stupid, and everything else is terrifying.

I loved the Brittle Riders so much!

Living in Rostov, with a family that refuses to conform, I found myself seeing the world through new eyes when I read this. My cousin got a copy and shared it with me. We talk about how this is a place where everything is broken and somehow ends up being beautiful. I think (McCormick) is right. The only way to save the world is to kill everyone and start over.

So, if I get this, you've got lesbians, polyamorists, Muslims, sorry - Muslim cows, giant Christian cockroaches, and so on, fighting for the betterment of all who live? I'll never admit this publicly, but I'm glad we've got a president who thinks you've got the right idea. Great story, kept me buried in it, and I just ordered hard copies for the den. Some day you can sign them. You're a strange guppy, but you do write like a pro. Semper Fi, crazy stranger.

This is a trilogy you need to read. Then start a cult worshipping the characters. As normal people do.

Fuck McCormick, he made me cry when a cockroach died.

When I hit book three I surrendered. I had no clue what was going to happen, but I needed to find out.

I gave this book 4 stars. Maybe the serials are good for TV shows. Thanks for those ideas of fantastic creatures. I enjoyed them.
